Fantastic experience: I give my highest positive recommendation to Colby McKinney. My wife and I have bought twice and sold once with Colby over the past couple years. The market conditions changed drastically over that time and Colby was with us from some transactions where we really came out on top and some tough negotiations through a dynamic local market that was difficult to sell in due to the completion of several new builds just down the road right on time to really compete against our older house. Colby went above and beyond to include using his personal truck and trailer and helped us move, paid for the house to be cleaned before photo staging, gotten us in touch with several local businesses for services such as land clearing, home repairs, you name it. During negotiations he listened to what we wanted, made recommendations, and always listened to what we wanted. When negotiating he isn’t afraid to play hardball. Colby treated us well when we were at our lowest lows and our highest highs, and that is certainly a testament to his character. He’s the kind of guy that treats the janitor and the CEO with the same respect.

Fantastic experience: When I was in 4th grade, I read a book about this old house with an attic; the magic of that book stuck with me through to my adulthood. This was paired with a serendipitous stop on our way to North Carolina for a year in Dixon Springs in the summer after 5th grade at this church. The warmth of Middle Tennessee and the offer of lemonade while discussing family history from the 1800s stayed in my soul, placed right beside that memory of the book. Through my research since then, I realized just how tied I am to the community in DeKalb, and nothing feels like home more than being related in some way to every 3rd person in a county. In 2021, I finally got to visit DeKalb for a month, followed again in 2022, when I knew I needed a home there. However, the biggest obstacle was that I didn't live anywhere near there; I lived in Vancouver, BC - about a 36-hour drive northwest of it. I researched a few realtors, as it was important to me to find one who was good at their job, gave back to their community, and would understand that I would make this happen. When I saw Robin's work with her professional life and dedication to her community, I knew she was the right person; she understood why buying there was so important to me, as this journey was about a piece of my soul. I found Robin, and she worked with me doing virtual tours of the homes I was interested in; some were too small, some were too far away, and then we found one that was just right. Along the way, I found a home. I couldn't figure out why it kept telling me it was my new home, but my heart knew it was home. It was a beautiful home in Alexandria that was 201 years old, and she helped investigate if there were any red flags before we considered an offer, making sure the crawlspace didn't show signs of decay and no signs of issues with the roof. I'm sure she met a few spiders in the process. She worked with the owner's realtor, and we settled on a fair exchange for both of us, one that was within my budget and where I could make some of the changes I wanted to help the home stay true to its nature. Helping find the right home inspector and showing up at the home for the day of delivery of the new stove and dishwasher since I could not be there in person. I cannot thank her enough for the extra effort to help this all go smoothly and for being a good human. The home is on its way to having spaces to showcase the area's history and the long-time families who helped turn the area into a community. If you're looking for a home to buy or sell, she'll do it the right way, which is what we all need in this chaotic world.
