Experiencia fantástica: Berns team Review long overdue but difficult to ignore. I first met my favorite member of the team, Colin McLaren, at an open house. I mentioned the need to rent my mother’s house in Highland Park. We scheduled a meeting at her home the following week when I met Mr. Jason Berns and Colin. They were prompt, professional, bringing rental and sale’s comps. After inspecting her home and offering important needed repair, they followed up with repair assistance. Once home was prepped for rent with complete overhaul, they took excellent pictures and a 3 D video for marketing. Rental property was advertised via multiple, popular, on-line sites. They scheduled an open house where they found a desirable tenant. Tenant’s background was investigated and officially confirmed. After my approval, a one year rental contract was generated by the Berns team. Tenant came in with cashier’s check for one month’s deposit, first month’s rent and rental insurance. A very fair finder’s and service fee was charged by Bern’s team. I chose the option of managing rental beyond that point. In essence, I was most happy choosing a management team that was not virtual like many others I throughly investigated. The Berns team is an actual brick and mortal business where I felt humanly connected with close proximity to property and a responsive team. I am very appreciative of their service.

We were moving 30 miles from where we have lived for the last four decades and were not familiar with any of the realtors in Pasadena. What we found out right away is that Laura has an extensive knowledge of the Pasadena area and a great ability to highlight the pluses and minuses of an individual house. She did her research on each house before showing it to us. Even though inventory was low and the market seemed to have lots of buyers, Laura helped us find a great house in a wonderful location. This was our second time buying a house in California, but our first time working with the Berns Team. We should have worked with them the first time! The market this time around (late 2024 / early 2025) was more difficult than our first time (early 2019 - and I thought THAT market was hard!). By the time we linked up, we had been looking at houses for over 18 months on our own. Laura and Jason really listened to what we wanted. Yes, they showed us some houses that we found on our own, but they also showed us MANY houses pre-market. The house we ultimately bought we saw pre-market. Yes, the sellers decided to go to market, but we were able to reach an agreement with them and I attribute that almost entirely to the Berns' integrity and persistence. Thank you!

Experiencia negativa: I recently applied to lease a townhouse listed by this broker. Several days later, I was notified that the owners intended to proceed with me as the new tenant. I requested a walkthrough prior to lease signing, which is a standard and recommended practice. This broker repeatedly subjected me to denials and foot dragging. They simply refused to conduct a walkthrough before contract signing. Not sure why any broker would do that unless they had a vested interest to get me out of the way for a less qualified renter. Owner was unaware of these shenanigans. Regardless of the motivation, this broker showed a complete lack of professionalism and integrity. Absolutely poor. Would not recommend. Edit: Thank you for proving my point in your response. This business' reply is patently false. Owner attendance was never required or demanded. I stated multiple times that the listing agent or his representative was more than sufficient for a walkthrough. I also offered to provide the required funds and sign the lease documents at the time of walkthrough. Why would anyone sign a contract without thoroughly examining a property first? This clear manipulation of the facts and accusations of me not acting in good faith is all anyone needs to know about how unethically this brokerage conducts their business. And yes, this interaction has been put into a public forum so that the public can make a more informed decision. In case you weren't aware, that's the purpose of a review system.

We needed to find a home for our family on a pretty tight schedule, following the Eaton fire fallout. JPH (Jason) was such a great help, from giving us the full attention and guidance during the home search stage, offering stage, all the way through escrow. Within 1 month, JPH and Berns team helped us go through the whole process. It was hectic at times, but being able to reach JPH through email, phone or message at all times to get the much needed clarifications made things manageable. Experiencia fantástica: DO NOT hire the Berns Real Estate team to sell your home if… You don’t want to move fast, if you don’t want to get top dollar for your property and most importantly, if you don’t want an easy effortless, stress-free experience. But if speed, great price and a smooth process sound good, call the Berns! My wife and I decided to relocate out of California and needed to sell the duplex where we were living and had owned for 26 years in Pasadena. We first hired a different Realtor who, to put it very kindly, did not work out… After several price reductions, poorly attended open houses, lack of communication or guidance and lots of work on our own, we found out through a family friend about the Berns. They had recently sold her home and she could not have been happier with their services. We spoke on the phone with Laura and she sounded great from the start. We met with her and Jason right away and they came up with a great plan to sell our duplex. It involved us moving to our new location right away (the previous Realtor advised against that), a few very small cosmetic improvements, staging (very important) and a planned series of open houses after an intensive promotion campaign. Because our property had already been listed for several months, with 2 price drops, we did not think the Berns could achieve the results they said would be possible… Well, I’m very happy to say we were dead wrong. Their proven strategy worked! They brought in multiple offers and our property sold for way over what we were asking with the previous Realtor. My wife and I have owned several other homes, including investment properties but we had never worked with a more talented, experienced, organized and committed team of experts. We had been trying to sell our duplex for 2 months, starting in August, with another agent, and it was not going well at all. The market was changing due to interest rates going up but there was still low inventory over all. Our listing was not well promoted, open houses were poorly attended, we had one deal fall out of escrow and another offer fizzle out. It was by complete chance that I ran into an old friend that had just used the Berns Team to sell their property and told me what an amazing experience she had. The very next day we called Laura and she was ready and willing to help us out. Laura and Jason met with us the next week, explained their selling strategy and how they prepare the property for sale. Experiencia negativa: We had an unfortunate experience with the Berns Team and found them to be dishonest and exploitive. Someone on their team acted as our buying agent on a house they were listing in South Pasadena. During the offer phase we were sent a flurry of documents to sign ... one was an "exclusive working contract" which would restrict us from working with any other realtor for the foreseeable future. This was NOT agreed upon by us, and thankfully we read the fine print and declined to sign. But we were very put off by this deception -- intentional or otherwise. We've since found another realtor and would encourage others to do the same.

Agent that work this company called me and he told me that there is open house on Monday 4-6pm in Pasadena, he gave me information of the house adress and everything. I went to Pasadena for open house and knocked the door and nobody was there, Some others tenant came out and he told me this unit is already rented out. And I texted him about that my situation and he told me all the his private situation and he wasn’t working today I was like “ what kind of company is this..? “ I’m sorry I don’t think I should know that his situation and his team couldn’t cover his work. This is so worst excuse and I’m scared if I was that tenant because some stranger knocked that door for open house. Don’t never trust this company either your tenant or owner. Because they are never gonna tell you if it’s rented or not it might be your house is next that someone gonna come see your house for the open house.

At our initial meeting with Jason and Laura, they thoroughly toured our house, asked many questions about the house and yard, asked what was important to us, noted all the pros and cons of the property, and took many notes. Based on this and their extensive knowledge of current market conditions, they suggested a selling price that coincided with our own estimation of our home's value. They explained their 10 day sales blitz, and introduced their extensive support team who would assist us at every step in the process. The team approach turned out to be invaluable to us: they prepared an excellent video tour of our house to accommodate online buyers; stagers worked with us to make our house as salable as possible; financial specialists handled all of the money question and details. There was always a team member available to answer any question and solve any problems that arose during the process. At no time did we feel that our concerns were not taken seriously, and every issue that arose was addressed promptly, courteously, and efficiently. After the two days of showings we received six offers.
