I surveyed the offerings on Street Easy, and thought it would be best to seek out a local buyer's agent, one who had an office in the area. As other reviewers have said, Jeff has an encyclopedic knowledge of the Co-op scene in Jackson Heights. He knows which are well run, which are in debt, which have reliable supers, which are likely to be difficult when it comes to the interview. By the time we were able to meet three months later, I felt pretty well prepared to do a lightning series of visits (we did not have much time), and decide on just one place. Jeff was great, had a lot of insider knowledge of neighborhoods, and helped us figure out what to expect (or avoid) in houses. He was never pushy, and was very comfortable to speak with. We felt that his suggested bids for houses were reasonable and similar to what we had predicted before asking. He was great at handling an antagonistic seller agent who repeatedly acted and communicated unprofessionally, including potentially disrupting the final contract signing. Jeff is incredibly knowledgeable about the neighborhood and the buildings here, and knew what buildings were worth looking and which ones were best avoided. He was also excellent at calming down my first-time buyer jitters, and believe me, I was not only jittery but completely ignorant about most of the process. He sent us to an excellent real estate lawyer and a fantastic lender, both of whom were also great to work with. When we saw Jeff, we wanted him to represent us instantly based on his Industry specific knowledge and honesty with telling us what we can and cannot get. This type of transparency is something that we really admired from him. Jeff answered all our emails within 5 min and coordinated communications between the seller, the lawyers, the listing agents, etc... At all times he made us comfortable with the process. And not only was he always prompt, but he also made sure that all other parties responded in a prompt way as well. Again, I would give Jeff even more stars if we could. He gave us his undivided attention and went above and beyond in making sure that our questions (as first-time buyers) were answered.
