Experiencia negativa: Barrie recently represented sellers on the home we recently purchased. We closed on our house December 8th and officially moved in on December 16th. On December 17th, the downstairs toilet started to backflow into the downstairs shower. We called a different plumbing to come out and diagnose the issue, thinking it was something minor. The plumber did a sewer scope and showed us our plumbing line was corroded with large cracks and recommended the entire line, all the way to the street be replaced, with a quote of $26,500. The damage is not just our pipes, but it's under the foundation of our home. Additionally, the plumber noted the sidewalk outside our home is concaved. Fixing the pipes will also require us to remodel our downstairs bathroom, because the plumbing goes directly under that bathroom. So in addition to the $26,500 to fix the pipes, we now have to remodel our bathroom. There is NO way the sellers of this house didn't know this was an issue prior to selling the home. I believe Barrie misrepresented the plumbing issues on behalf of their sellers to get the home sold quickly and did not do their due diligence in representing the plumbing damage of this home. DO NOT TRUST HER.

They’re not good to the tenants buying a home here. It looks like they have great reviews. Beware when you rent here for renters it’s not good

Experiencia negativa: The short of it: they do not honor the lease language and change the rules as they go. Its all about them and you literally don't matter. The detail: paid in full to take possession of a Hufford managed property per a lease starting on May 30 which starts at 12:01 on May 30...the entire day. I wanted the key available for May 30 by 6am when I had to start the moving process. I was told I could have the key at their convenience that day. I have moved a lot. NO ONE DOES THIS. They give you the key so you have it for the day the lease starts. They didn't care about the lease language and said it would be given to me at their convenience. I held them to the lease so they said they would refund me and break the lease stating they would give me my money back right then. I agreed to it and said give me my refund and I will leave. Then the man said well no actually you can't have the refund now. He made me come back another day saying he would give me a check for the entire amount. I got it on video. I came back. They didn't give me the full refund in a check. and they held my refund in their hand saying if I didn't sign a document I couldn't have it back. Someone needs to take them to court to let them know power games over money and deposits are not reasons to retain monies given for deposits and rent. But its all about them. Its their way or the highway. Then came the document I was forced to sign along with threats they would call police if I continued resisting because the document stated they had already refunded me which was not the truth at all. On the check they had put my address on it as the address they knew was not moving into and their reason was they didn't know my current address. I reminded them only a week ago they did a landlord reference verification for my current address. This is what you get with Hufford.

The sale was emotional and challenging due to city zoning, and it was three hours away from where we currently reside. We needed someone with extensive knowledge, networking skills, and, most importantly, empathy and care. Barrie got to work immediately, gathered an incredible amount of information about the process and the status of city and county inspections, and reviewed all the non-standard documents. The delivery of the information was straightforward: present the information and talk about the pros/cons/strategy for moving forward. She treated the situation like she was selling her own home—she looked out for me and my family home with our best interests in mind. She was consistently available to address, research, and answer all of our questions and concerns. We couldn't have done it without her professionalism and expertise.

Experiencia negativa: I believe most reviews are from people who bought homes with Barry. Avoid this company for rentals like the plague! Hufford and company took over management of my building in Golden and I made several months of effort to get in touch while my lease was expiring and I needed basic repairs done. I left message after message asking for a new contract and walk through of the unit together. Then one day Stephanie called me demanding I sign a lease immediately because I wasn’t on one. This is a consistent pattern, totally ghosting until they need something immediately. For months I told them I wasn’t on a lease and wanted to talk them. Then she scolded me for not having signed a contract during the months they ignored me. My brother was visiting and broke a window of a neighbour backing up his van, he made an effort to reconcile directly with the neighbors but we had no communication whatsoever until over a month later when they stuck a huge bill on my account already listed as past due the day it posted. Stephanie called demanding I pay IMMEDIATELY so they could pay the contractor who they allegedly stiffed until they could collect. Then they asked the tenant with property damage to his unit to pay the bill as and added to both of our accounts. There are squatters living in the parking lot of this building and apparently tenants are responsible for any damage done to our unit by any outsider? Stolen cars and a boat trailer have been left in this lot for months due to the lack of attention from maintenance. My bicycle was stolen off of my 2nd floor balcony using a ladder the management company left outside. Surprise surprise, no one responded to this safety concern either and no one takes responsibility for the lawlessness on their property. I had ac that did not work nor heat in winter. Most renters had non working screen doors so we couldn’t even allow fresh air in absent ac in the summer (wasp nests all over the building so screens are very necessary). I even had to put super glue on my front door which was rotted out and wouldn’t close. This unit was moldy and my health has improved dramatically since getting out: no ac, no windows for ventilation, no ac, it definitely had long lasting effects on my health and I woke up unable to breathe every morning in this building, something I don’t experience anywhere else. On the rare occasion I got through to management I was told to put in a work order. My last work order on these basic liveability issues was “received” for over a year with no follow up. I gave one months notice of move out and called asking what I could do to get my deposit back. Stephanie was very vague: “clean the fridge, wash windows.” Then AFTER my posted move out date she sent me an email with a detailed move out checklist, saying “this is a list we sent you awhile ago”, which they certainly did not. A month prior I had asked what I could do for a smooth transition and she didn’t bring up this list, then AFTER the move out date she pretended she had sent it long ago. This is the pattern: they don’t do anything ahead or communicate regularly and then gaslight you pretending they have been doing their job and you’re responsible for not receiving a non existent communication. Tenants on ground floor had filthy waste water leak into their apartments due to awful plumbing and were told they would need to pay for it if they ever stuck food in their garbage disposal! Plumbing so bad it leaks ON THEIR heads and they are being blamed for putting food in a supposed garbage disposal unit? Total lack of responsibility or accountability from management for a single thing: plumbing so bad it leaks on tenants heads is not those tenants fault! As far as I know no one from this management company even ever saw my apartment, just sat in their office collecting money and only uttering a peep if rent was a day late…all the work they weren’t doing on the building to give us basics like fresh air, mold control, etc but God forbid they wait a day or two to collect all their money for absolutely nothing!

Experiencia negativa: Kind people and enjoyed living at the property but beware as a renter. They're absent from most needs and are very difficult to get in touch with for basic needs as a renter including getting the lease set up properly with the correct dates, names, etc. Also will do their best to scam you out of your security deposit.

I have good credit, make enough money, have never been evicted so I am confused. They also said I was the only person who had applied, guess they didn't like me for some reason? Doug also asked me a lot of personal questions about my divorce. Maybe they aren't fans of single moms or people who are getting a divorce?

Experiencia negativa: My application to rent a home in Arvada was submitted and paid for on April 14th. I was told that I would know within the week whether or not I was approved. After not hearing back for 9 days, I called to check in on the status of my application. They told me that they would let me know if I was accepted or not by the following Friday, April 26th. I didn't receive any notice. I called this morning, April 29th at 11:30am and was told to leave my phone number to get a call back because Doug was on another call. I didn't get a call back for 4 hours so I called them again and was finally told that the home was offered to a different applicant. I'm disappointed by the lack of communication and how little they seemed to care once our application was paid for. EDIT (Response to Owner): I did try to call to discuss this. Nobody answered for the 20 minutes I tried to reach you for. I understand that you have other applicants and my complaint wasn't just that it took a while, it's that for 2 weeks the only calls that were sent were from me to you. If you couldn't meet the week deadline that your people set, I believe it's appropriate to reach out and let me know that it's going to take longer. I wouldn't mind as much if your company gave some notice since we're out looking for a place to rent and don't want to throw 40-50 dollars in application fees at real estate agencies just to not hear back for half a month or potentially longer. I think it's disingenuous to say you "told me" last week that you would notify me or that you "notified me" on Monday when I was the only person reaching out.
