Negative experience: Discriminatory against young Future renters do not bother!!! Gentlemen on the phone was more worried about arguing, then providing customer service and inquiry!!!!

Fantastic experience: Very helpful people that will do their best to get you where you need to or want to be. Dan and Mark are willing to go the extra mile and I'm sure that the rest of the staff are exactly the same

Negative experience: The owner Beckie attempted to bribe me $25 to write a good review. I did not because I have integrity and cannot be bribed. Now that I have moved out, she wrongfully kept about 3/4 of my double security deposit. Details pending after court action. Am I being punished for not taking the bribe? Seems like blackmail to me. Will be contacting the attorney general.

Negative experience: Wish I could give them zero stars. It’s the middle of winter and I’m going on 24 hours without heat or hot water in my unit. I called the emergency line twice to let them know, put in a maintenance request, and sent them an email. Still no heat. Avoid this place at all costs.

Negative experience: First I’d like to say this place is filthy. I ended up with bedbugs the first month I moved it. There was a huge leak in the ceiling and since I was on the top floor it all ran down my wall and into the carpet. They took FOREVER to come replace the carpet with an old one from another persons nasty apartment. The walll was never repainted either. The stove broke multiple times and the sink was leaking and they never completed. I was charged for someone else’s garbage being left in the hallway that sinks in the first place. Ok now the customer service!!! The rep sounded like she thinks she’s the best person in the world and no one is better than her attitude. Makes it hard to have a good conversation with someone so rude at there job. They will take every single penny from you after moving out even know they didn’t maintain what was needed to be maintained. Anyone that dares to give this place a chance. Make sure you read the reviews and do a EXTREMELY walk through the apartment. Also when you move there is no walk through with the property manager. Good luck sadly. Ok so I’m adding to my review. It’s now been 44 days since I handed in my keys. By law the landlord has 21 days to return the security deposit or everything that was fixed and how much. I called the office yesterday and I was told they can’t find anything about me and they would have the main lady -I’ll leave her name out- call me. I never got a call so I went to the office the next day and they say they have nothing to do with it. WOW. Please read and read other reviews. Now I will have to take this further to small claims court to get my small security deposit they say was because of the constructions. I never got a list of damages or the money. The reviews speak for themselves. Hopefully this helps people from going through the frustration. Up date. I won my law suit against the company to get my FULL+ security deposit back.

Thank you for your feedback. While we're sorry to hear about your experience, we do want to note that you were with us for nearly 10 years, which we hope reflects some level of satisfaction during your stay. The condition the unit was left in required significant repairs, which impacted the return of your deposit. We always strive to handle maintenance and move-out matters fairly, and we’re happy to discuss any concerns directly.

Negative experience: A property found on Zillow is plagued by scams and Roaches. Post-Covid, a $50 application fee and hard credit check are now mandatory, often undisclosed. Even with excellent credit and a positive landlord reference, applicants without a full year of employment face extra challenges, including a double security deposit, a co-signer in Connecticut, and another $50 fee, even for low-cost rentals. Management prioritizes profit over helping tenants, with managers Daniel and Beckie showing little empathy, even selling pest-infested properties while misleading potential tenants. It’s disgusting. They even try to say we brought them in, or they never seen any signs of pest, straight lie to your face. They refuse to release tenants from contracts despite uninhabitable conditions. It's disheartening that they wouldn't treat their own families this way. In contrast, realtors Angel and Steve are working to improve the situation, and willing to make things right. Prospective applicants should be cautious, as I wish I had received a warning about this management.

Negative experience: We lived in the Intertown property for 5 years (35 Evergreen). The first 3 years were okay — it was what you would expect for the price you pay. We had minimal complaints, which is why we kept living there. However, the last 2 years (2024 and 2025) were absolutely terrible, and let me tell you why. (We have receipts for all the points mentioned below.) First, there were suddenly a lot of cockroaches everywhere in the apartment — kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and closet. The reason is that they stopped doing pest control in 2023. I haven’t seen any maintenance staff come by for pest control in the last 2 years. Second, the building has around 30–40 apartments, but only 2 washing machines and 2 dryers for everyone. Not ideal, but manageable — until one washing machine broke. It took them more than 3 weeks to fix it. They are extremely irresponsible when it comes to maintaining their property. (You can see how they communicate in the attached email picture.) Third, the area has become very unsafe and gets worse every year. People scream and yell outside all the time, and you can hear gunshots in the neighborhood occasionally. Walking at night — or even driving home at night — feels very unsafe. You often see police cars blocking the street because of incidents happening almost every week. Fourth, the hallway… oh my god. It used to be fine a couple of years ago, but now it smells awful — like a mix of animal urine, human sweat, and moldy carpet. I don’t understand how the place has gone downhill so fast. Lastly, if you value your hard-earned money, stay far away from this place. No matter how carefully you follow their move-out instructions, they will find a hundred ways to scam you out of your 2-month deposit. They’ll replace the rug even if you hired a professional to clean it, or make up extra charges for random things. The attached pictures show their “move-out instructions,” the proof that we followed them all, and the unreasonable upcharges they sent us anyway. Save yourself a headache — seriously! Update: We were finally able to speak with Beckie, and at least she was somewhat reasonable. She acknowledged that Intertown mistakenly charged us for 4 mini blinds instead of 3 (hopefully it is unintentional haha). Since we didn’t hang the 3 blinds ourselves, she said they charged $40 each for their maintenance person to install them. She also explained the charges for the carpet and why removing a toaster and microwave supposedly cost a ridiculous amount. Honestly, in this job market, working for Intertown might be a gold mine — $200 just to hang three blinds and throw away two small appliances. lol. But at this point, it is what it is. We’ll take it as a lesson learned and move on. Goodbye, and never see again.

Negative experience: Lived in one of their buildings for 2 yrs. A neighbor moved, and suddenly cockroachea appeared in my kitchen. They refused fumigation, citing putting a toxic gel around my sink as enough. Meanwhile I watches them literally crawl into the walls. Same building had a note in our hallway written by a neighbor that there were rats in the building. They've been brought to court several times. Please look them up in hartford courts before renting.

Bre Nicole Published on Google 1 year ago

Negative experience: Don’t waste your time, this is a horrible place to live. Carpets in the hallway stink of dog piss and cigarettes, and the walls are so thin that you can hear your neighbor sneeze, cough, and answer their phone. Not to mention that there are zero amenities/perks while living here. There are only two washers and dryers for the entire building, and they NEVER work, so you end up going to a laundry mat anyway. Your packages are constantly stolen due to the terrible mail system in place, which is just your package being left outside by the front door. Hopefully the mail person is kind enough to put it inside the door, but then someone in the building will steal it. I have had two vehicles stolen off the property and damaged in the parking lot with zero answers from Leasing, because they refuse to install a simple security camera with a view of the parking lot. There are mice, severe plumbing issues, leaking toilets from upstairs neighbors, security issues, theft, vandalism, stench, crappy appliances that stop working in the middle of the night, and the list goes on. Leasing is well aware of ALL of these issues and refuse to do anything about it, besides raise your rent each year. RUN away from this place.

Negative experience: They give landlords a very, very, bad name. Only care about money, very dishonest company.

Nikki Cashman Published on Google 1 year ago

Negative experience: I think this is the first time I have ever written a negative Google review, but I felt strongly that this should be known. This company is the most unprofessional rental property management I have worked with locally. They are discriminatory against age, requiring young people to get co-signers despite having very high credit scores, reputable references, a good rental history, and a salary five times the yearly rent. You rarely see the employees, as the office is usually empty, with maybe one person who is not paying attention. They barely answer the office phone; I called numerous times with questions and left a voicemail, but it was never followed up on. They are not forthcoming, and only when you complain do they backtrack and try to cover themselves. The apartment I viewed was under renovation and actually looked promising, but based on these other reviews, it seems like I dodged a bullet. I definitely do not recommend them, as there are many other rental properties in the area that are far more professional and easier to deal with. If I could give them a negative star rating I would.

John Craig Published on Google 1 year ago

Negative experience: Please be careful with this company they lie they are not very professional and what they make you go through for a substandard apartment is not worth it. The representatives are no better than street hustlers for some behind the scene owners from where no one knows . They seem to target college students whose parents need to make sure they read the reviews. I initially didn’t read the reviews but after dealing with them and there demands for application fees and unprofessional behavior I decided to warn everyone stay away thy suck as a company

Negative experience: Are you really suppose to download an application and mail it with application fee and security deposit

Eric Mackowski Published on Google 1 year ago

Negative experience: I have never done a review in my life before. For me to do one means I REALLY had something to say. DO NOT.. I REPEAT… DO NOT.. expect to get your full security deposit back. This company will ding you for the most minimal damages at a very inconsiderate charge. I was told i could patch all the holes in the wall (hanging up shelves, TVs, etc.)… still got charged $350… couple blades of a blind broke? Charged $160 (which are very inexpensive to begin with)…Leave a few spots in the kitchen? Boom…$260… Forget to throw something out? Don’t worry you’ll get dinged a high amount for that too. The only charge I can understand was a urine spot from my puppy and spots on the floor from the cage scratching but they charged me $1400!!!! That is ridiculous. At $1400 that seems like the entire floor of the apartment was scratched and ruined. On top of looking at the itemized list. They listed we were late to pay rent a couple times when it was instructed you don’t have to pay right away. There was a buffer. My roommate and I were never late. But no surprise.. we got dinged for that. It really makes me wonder what they do with the left over money they take from tenants.. I CAN tell you one thing.. they don’t use that money to make the place more safe.. the security cameras don’t even work around the properties.. my roommate had a $300 camera stolen right from the front entrance (the camera doesn’t work there). For an over priced apartment that is outdated.. you really are paying for the area you live in. So to conclude.. if you want your deposit back. Don’t even make a scratch, don't hang anything up. Very unhappy.

Negative experience: The property management here is horrible! Very hostile, and refuse to let their current tenants prosper. They'll let employees give false information, and stand on being hostile and rude as their management plan of action. I dont not recommend. Hauntingly Published on Google 2 years ago

Negative experience: Terrible management and terrible maintenance. If you're lucky enough to have absolutely no problem with your property, you'd be a rare tenant and likely encoruaged to pop up with a fancy little 5 star review. When a problem does arise, it is often ignored until legal action is threatened, or the cheapest solution is provided, enough to hide the problem from anyone that might bring attention to it. Don't get locked out of your apartment, either, they won't even provide the courtesy of unlocking your door for you, despite you being required to give them a key to access your property when you sign your lease. This is an incredibly basic expectation of any landlord. You're insted told to call out and pay a locksmith, to enter their building and your apartment, because they can't be bothered to do their job. Infestations? You get to live with that. They might come by and spray some RAID, if you're lucky, but that won't be until they gaslight you about the problem or accuse you of the cause. Infestation of rodents? Also your problem. Enjoy the rat traps they set down in the hallways and pick up before they display an apartment to a potential tenant. For that you might get lucky enough to be informed that "no one else has rats" despite all your neighbors also compaining to them--and you--about the rats. Forget it if you have a mold problem. They hardly even updated buildings to have legally acceptable anti-fire measures and you think they did anything to reduce the black mold growing in the walls? Don't expect bathroom vents in half the buildings, and even if you do your part to control humidity, you can do nothing about everyone else in the building. Crime in your building? Oh well! That's also your problem! Squatters? Oh well! Drug users dumping their burnt spoons and needles in public locations? Well, it'll get swept up, but broken doors and windows will sit that way for weeks to months. Peak Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss behavior whenever you try to resolve anything, most especially if you are on the lower end of the income demographic. The exploitation is incredible, with management making up completely false reasons to raise rent or demand more for a security deposit that they'll quickly retract the moment you get legal assistance involved. They even go as far as to break basic housing laws, accusing you of not understainding that it's "their company policy" to break Fair Housing laws. Again, all of this quickly gets retracted the moment you introduce legal aid to the situation. They expect the lower income tenants to not have that capability, and thus take advantage of those individuals the worst, giving them poor living conditions with little expectation of retaliation. Find better for yourself and for your money, no one deserves to be mistreated in securing a housing solution for themselves.

Fantastic experience: I first rented from Intertown when I was in college. Went off to NYC for many years. Now that I'm back, I'm happy to say I'm back with Intertown. They are professional, helpful, and considerate. Now that I'm older, I've had to face many problems, and Beckie and Steve have been a tremendous help. Intertown is a great company to rent from, and I'm happy to be living here.

Negative experience: The apartment I rented was a mold-infested disaster zone. Everything malfunctioned, from smelly carpets to crumbling walls. The staff, especially the unhelpful Steven, were shockingly rude, showing no regard for tenant concerns. They only care about their money. Attempts to resolve issues with the management were futile; they seemed indifferent to our living conditions. Avoid this nightmare of a place if you value your sanity and wellbeing.

Fantastic experience: Intertown Realty is the best. From the first day I signed my lease in 2020, I have been impressed. I love how every week the maintenance team is cleaning the hallways and leave it smelling amazing. If I need to do a maintenance request they are there in a blink of an eye and I absolutely love my unit. You have the all the amenities you need at an incredibly affordable housing cost. I refuse to go anywhere else unless it’s one of their properties. The best part is that theres so many properties to choose from yet they know you by name. Love my Intertown Family.

Negative experience: Shameful business practices going on we attempted to rent apartment and found out that the place is disgusting before we got the keys in front of the building. The hallway of the building that smells like urine and feces is the third now we give him the money 10 days ago my wife paid 6 months up front and I'm trying to say we have to get out of this it's completely disgusting and unacceptable. I know that we signed the lease but we have not taken possession of the place we agreed to let them have $1,000 deposit so we can get off right back. They refuse they just want to keep the money they told us that we have to move in and we don't have a choice because they're running it to us. A thousand dollars is a good piece of money to walk away for that dump good I am happy to give him a thousand dollars to get away from this deal Rebecca Boise is behaving like a snake why can't you be a good practitioner of fair business practices and just take the deposit for $1,000 you never gave me the keys. And just go on with your life no she wants to charge us another $500 for advertising and another this for restocking fees another this and another that the woman is a snake

Negative experience: If I could leave zero stars I would!! Absolutely horrible people to rent from. Never in my life have I had so many problems. They are the definition of slum lords in every aspect. Beckie paid me to write a glowing review because they get such terrible ones. Now I see why. Beware!! I regret every second of renting from them. Everyone in the building at Huckleberry hill in Avon agrees with me. God forbid you are to leave. They will 100% take your security deposit and even look for more money. We left the apartment in excellent condition after living there for 3 years and know for certain we will not see a single dime. Just know that you either need to resign a lease every year or give them 2 months notice when leaving. Very nerve wracking trying to scramble and find something. Not willing to work with you in the slightest. Never in all my years of renting have I ever had so much stress. They try and take everything from you.

Negative experience: only 3 months there my apartment had bed bugs! they don't extermination the whole building at once. so the bed bugs jump from apartment to apartment. hallways always dirty. people leaving bags of trash. elevator is disgusting. hallway carpets need to be shampooed. people throwing their junk mail on the floor. even the tenants show no respect to their own home.

Ivelisse Pena Published on Google 3 years ago

Negative experience: In my 44 years, I have rented many apartments and never had an issue with my landlords because I'm an excellent tenant. I pay my rent on time, keep the unit super clean, and am very quiet. Until I rented from them. I have never dealt with such an unprofessional, rude, passive-aggressive, and dishonest company before. There are maybe two people that work in the office who were home-trained growing up. Moving in was a nightmare. Flat out, don't rent from these people. I could write you a book, but I am going to get right to the main points. I moved in and the building had bed bugs. They tried to say I brought them in, "they never had a complaint in that building." I called the health code inspectors and they verified there was a bed bug problem report in that building before I moved in, which they knew about. Once the inspector was involved, everything went smoothly. I left it alone even though I could have taken them to court to pay for all the extra costs they should have been responsible for in that situation, (laundry, plastic bags, damaged furniture) but I was trying to let bygones be bygones. I waited for my year to be up and put in my sixty-day notice. They require sixty days. I moved out on August 31, 2022. I left the apartment brand new. Took photos, and videos, and had a section 8 inspector due a full inspection before handing in my keys. As I always do when I first move in and move out. They have thirty days to return the security deposit and I have not received mine. It is October 11, 2022. The first excuse was I did not leave a forwarding address with them. They allegedly mailed it to the address I no longer resided at. Asking if I changed my forwarding address with the post office. I showed them email proof that I did give them a forwarding address and also made the change with the post office. They should have called to verify my address from the beginning. They made me wait another week before allegedly canceling the old check, and reissuing a new one. I requested the amount they had allegedly sent, and I received the ledger. It showed late fees I did not make. They reviewed it and apologized for the mistake. No check, wrong amount, still waiting. I suggested I go pick it up to avoid further complications but was denied. This is all past the thirty days they are supposed to return the deposit. They stated it would go out in the mail the next day. I still have not received it. I emailed letting them know I will be taking this up with the housing court if I do not receive it by Oct 11. They emailed me back stating it was now in the hands of the booking department. And as if I was being impatient, told me to proceed as I wish. I emailed back stating I have been nothing but patient and understanding throughout the mishandling of my security deposit. Was it not supposed to go out the next day in the mail? Now it is in the hands of the booking department? No answer. It is apparent they have no intention of giving me my security deposit. I have contacted legal aid and the housing court. I am currently filing a case. They are wasting my time and the court's time. I really wanted to write this review and say, these people can work on their professionalism, but everything else is legit. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Do not trust them. I have attached some of the photos I took. The apartments themselves are really nice. Too bad, I can not say the same about management.

Fantastic experience: Going on 3 years renting from Intertown and I wouldn’t want to rent from anyone else. Everyone in the office and maintenance crew is amazing. The response is so fast. Negative experience: If you're looking for an affordable apartment in a decent part of Hartford, look no further! But be warned, there are downsides. I rented from Intertown for 2 years from 2020-2022. I resided at the 23 Girard Ave residence and lived in a studio apartment. Overall, the unit was a perfect size for a studio, the kitchen and bathroom were a good size, as well as the living space. There was plenty of storage, two closets and good cabinet space. Heating and water was included, I only paid for internet and power. Because heating was included, it was never turned on in the building until November. The windows were dated and the screens were practically falling out with poor insulation. I never had any issues with my neighbors and everyone was always friendly. Occasionally I would catch the odor of marijuana/cigarettes in the hallway, but never in my unit. Parking is off-street but is a free-for-all. Never had an issue in the beginning but I noticed quickly that the parking spots were poorly marked and there were many cars parking there that didn't have an official sticker. Had to park on the streets many nights. During the winter, the parking area was never plowed on time and getting in or out was very difficult after a blizzard. Never used the laundry facilities but there were machines in the basement. My biggest issue was with management. It was always difficult to reach someone on the phone and the online work orders were very hit or miss when it came to a timely response. Had a mouse & bug problem during my time there, the mouse problem was handled relatively quickly but the bug problem I was more or less on my own. I cleaned my unit thoroughly and did everything asked of me before officially moving out and I did receive my full security deposit back.

Negative experience: Rude unpleasant staff employee I had spoken to about the process to apply for an apartment. Woman proceeds to tell me over the phone I'll need a guarantor without ever setting up a meeting with me in person and reviewing my verifying documents of income and credit. She then tells me to have my guarantor call her so she can speak to them and ask them questions, excuse me? What nonsense is she speaking of. We never even met or spoke before. That is not how you conduct business. Not wasting any time with this place. I found a new place to rent at a more professionally run apartment complex the following week.

Obviously I could not keep my old job in a new state! It really makes no sense to me because I have good credit, make the income requirement, and have good rental history. Landlords are out here really making it hard for people, and then complain that they can’t find good tenants. Booooooo throwing tomatoes.

Fantastic experience: Let me start off by saying I've been with inter-town Realty for about 5 or 6 years now at one of their locations. I recently just had my first child so I reached out to Steve and Becky and they were very accommodating. They helped upgrade me to a bigger apartment in a good area with good neighbors. I love the new place. Also they have many other locations in the area. All I could really say is that I would highly recommend them.

Negative experience: Absolute scam artists!!! I moved into an apartment with a huge black spot on the carpet, several things broken, and had to clean dead cockroaches out of the cabinets on my first day. They kept my security deposit for said damages even though I left the place in practically the same condition I moved in. I had a plumbing issue which caused my bathroom to flood several times a day and asked THREE TIMES for them to fix it, it wasn't until after I threatened to stop paying rent that they finally did something about it...absolutely disgusting. They don't actually fix anything, just charge you for it, let someone else move in, and charge them for the same things. There is also less parking than there are apartments, so you'll likely end up parked on the streets getting sideswiped and parking tickets. Positive experience: I have rented from Intertown for overa decade now, great outfit. Anytime I have an issue there is a swift and well executed response. Steve the property manager and Beckie have always been a pleasure to work with.

Fantastic experience: My husband and I have lived at 650 Prospect Ave for the past year and are considering extending. We've been extremely pleased with the level of professionalism, service, and support we are afforded by Intertown Realty to the extent that we rented a 2nd apartment with them for my son. The management and agents are all incredibly friendly and highly professional, the maintenance is timely and of high quality, the apartment itself is spacious, comfortable, well worth the rent and the area is quite beautiful. Beckie, Mimi and Steve have made every effort to attend to personal needs and we've been (and are) very happy here. I would highly recommend Intertown Realty and their beautiful apartments. Beckie, Mimi and Steve have been exemplary especially with COVID precautions.

Fantastic experience: Very professional and helpful staff, nice and welcoming neighbors, safe and comfortable building, and a very cozy 2-bedroom lofted apartment. Thank you to Mimi and the whole Intertown team for making our experience such a positive one.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been renting for 5 years. Never had a problem. Pay your rent they leave you alone. They allow you to have dogs. They also make sure pets are not being neglected, not causing noise etc. they fixed everything I’ve ever called about. I have seen tenants come and go. One thing I will say if there is an issue with one. They will do their best to try to resolve it. If it can’t be and complaints still come in. They are not afraid to send notices to quits. That’s a plus because home is suppose to be peaceful

Fantastic experience: I was a tenant of this leasing company for three years and it was a great experience throughout, I would highly recommended. Everybody from their office staff to their maintenance professionals were nothing short of extremely helpful, friendly, and attentive throughout my time with them. They are very much deserving of a 5-star rating and I strongly recommend them!

Intertown Realty Company

Thank you Matt is was a pleasure having you as a resident.

Negative experience: Don't bother. They don't care about anyone. Just $$$$$

Fantastic experience: I have been renting from Intertown since 2017, I had a studio first and now a 1 bedroom apartment at Juniper House for the seniors. It is located in a very quiet neighborhood and the rent is reasonable and affordable. The staff is very nice, namely Joseph, Beckie and Steve. If there's a problem they try to resolve it as quickly as possible. Also all workers you encounter are very friendly. Yes,I will definitely recommend Intertown Reality.

Negative experience: Poor service. Every time there was an issue no one seemed to care. I basically paid rent for a whole year and barely slept there because music was always played after the time that is said on the lease brought it to the landlords attention he did nothing. For some reason he thinks Becky is his security guard and can never handle business him self. THEY ARE SUPER DIRTY. In my entire year living there I’ve only seen them clean the building once! They would leave the grass growing and not cut it for an entire 2 months. You can call for maintenance and they will not get back to you! The staff is rude! Don’t bring anything to there attention because they do not care. As long as they have their money they are okay. Stay away while you can!

Negative experience: I called three times to request information about two studios they have, all three times after a very short conversation they asked me to wait, and leave me in the phone for several minutes, then they just hangup. I just stopped calling, very bad service.

Good afternoon, we are sorry you feel this way. You don't identify who you are so we believe this review to be without merit. If we are mistaken kindly call the rental office at 860-233-6281 so we can address any concerns that you may have.

Fantastic experience: I would highly recommend Intertown Realty. I’ve had such a great experience working with them. Beckie, Steve and Joseph are all so helpful and made the process very easy. I love that they have multiple properties. They helped me find the apartment that was best for me. The maintenance is great as well. Any problem I have had was addressed within that day. When I got the keys to my apartment i was so very pleased with the cleanliness- it was immaculate. Intertown Realty is definitely the best realty company I have ever dealt with.

We love having you as a resident and know we are always here to make sure you are happy and safe.

Negative experience: Intertown Realty Company is very Bad The staff are very rude - They will NOT give your deposit money back, whatever you did(Impossible) they will make up all kinds of fees so that they can only keep the deposit of your insurance and pay more, I cleaned my place very well however they took my deposit and Month extra1400$ more ,and when I tried to talk to them they were very rude ,,bad bad company I do not recommend dealing with them

Negative experience: I lived at the building they bought since 2012 Intertown bought the building in 2017. I’m going to be real honest about this rental company. There’s good and bad things about them. The most concerning of all is how misleading they are. They’re the most terrible human beings I’ve ever encountered. The lie and lie and have all the money and power to do whatever they want with your security deposit. They always come up with something to screw people over. BE VERY AWARE! DON’T RENT FROM HERE!! They’ll ruin your rental history and credit. They completely took advantage of an honest mistake I made.

Negative experience: Very rude management staffs. Big time thieves. Apartment was in a very bad condition and hardly any thing worked...Rat problems, insects and mosquito's problem. Inspite of that they don't refund your deposit at the end. Worst experience i ever had.

Fantastic experience: So far, I had nothing but praise for Intertown Realty Company. I had 2 incidents where I needed maintenance and they came through both times. One of them was late at night around 11pm, I had no electricity and the maintenance guy showed up that night to help resolve the issue.

Fantastic experience: My landlord is great. They are very accommodating and understanding. I lived in two of their apartments so far and I love the service. I have been a tenant with them going on three years now. The maintenance always follows through quickly. The staff there are great and a pleasure to deal with. They helped me step by step to move from one of their apartments to another. They make living on my own easier. I used to feel overwhelmed and naive in regards to renting an apartment. Now, I feel experienced. I have always been honest with them and they have been honest with me too. I think I have a great professional relationship with them and I intend on continuing to be their tenant at least until I'm done with college. Thank you, Intertown Realty!

Fantastic experience: So Far, So Great! I just recently moved in and Intertown has been extremely accommodating! Due to the timing of my move I wasn't able to get my electricity turned on by my move in date, but I talked to the Property Manager at Intertown and he speedily conceived a resolution for my problem. I couldn't be more satisfied with their responsiveness and helpfulness.

Adrianny Baez Published on Google 8 years ago

Fantastic experience: Attentive property management, quick to respond to my emails and quick to fix any maintenance issue I've had. One of the few Dog friendly communities in west hartford, would recommend.

Amber Brown Published on Google 8 years ago

Negative experience: If you want a roof over your head, then that's about all you will get from this company. They do not follow up regarding maintenance issues within your apartment and do not maintain a clean building (at least certainly not the one I was at). Be aware that while they are pet friendly they are constantly coming into the apartment to "update equipment" so you have to make sure your pets are either crated or not there. I would not recommend this unless you literally have nowhere else to go. They do not care about your personally, just the money you give them. And if you have an issue they WILL NOT give you any viable number to contact higher up management.

Fantastic experience: I am finishing up my year lease with Intertown and am excited to re-sign my lease. Everyone has been very helpful from the time I started searching until now. I love my apartment, and when the occasional problem happens maintenance is always there. Other leasing companies have made me feel like they are just trying to get every penny out of me, but I have not felt this way about Intertown. I would recommend their properties to anyone.

Negative experience: I'm apartment hunting, so I called and left a message saying I had a few questions about the place at 115 Oxford. They call me back almost a full day later, and the rep was super rude. Instead of answering questions, he immediately asked my income and when I told him, he said I'd need a co-signer and to call him back. He acted like I was wasting his time. I understand needing to know this stuff, but that comes when I decide if your place is a good fit, which I can't do without getting my questions answered. Unprofessional, rude.

Negative experience: When I was looking for apartments Intertown Realty was phenomenal. The associate we had was great and he took extra time and care to show us apartments within our budget that were in nice neighborhoods. He continued to be great throughout the application process and ALWAYS responded promptly (within minutes!). When I went to sign my lease, though, the front desk employee wasn't very friendly and did not take the care I came to expect from before in the event of signing a lease. We were told that we needed to fill-out our own move-in checklist so that management knew the apartment was in working order as they did not do a check of the apartment before I moved in. When I opened my apartment it was okay- only okay. The bathroom door did not shut, the bathroom window was impossible to open (and close), the one kitchen cabinet would not open based on placement of the heating unit, the carpets were dirty, and my AC did not work (it was over 90 degrees outside when I moved in and 80 degrees in my apartment). When I called the week after I moved in to check to see if my move-in checklist was received (because it has to be received within a week) it took 4 days worth of calling at different times throughout the day and leaving numerous messages with the answering service (and I never got a call back). When I finally got ahold of the office the person at the front desk did not answer my question and only asked what was wrong and said she'd send people to fix it and hung up. Needless to say my original experience with Intertown Realty was great but the other interactions didn't hold up to that standard. UPDATE: I was away from my apartment for 1.5 months due to work in another area and while I was gone somehow my apartment used $157 worth of electric in one month (I turned off all my breakers when I left but when I came back they were turned back on and the AC was on). There was no forced entry, and since they change the locks between every tenant, the person who used my apartment must have had a key. That was the second month in a row my electric was exorbitantly high. While it's impossible to figure out if there was wrongdoing (and there are no security cameras to show anyone going in or out of my apartment), I didn't feel comfortable living there and the management office offered to let me move to another, $120 more expensive, apartment still under the same realty. The office additionally helped cover the electric fees that occurred while I was gone. I was able to move quickly (less than 24 hours after viewing the apartment!) and the maintenance men who helped me move were wonderful. Since I moved my new apartment has been very nice. The people in the apartment are respectful and the grounds are kept clean as the maintenance men live close by and keep a keen eye on the place. The parking situation is manageable but not ideal as the lot provided is too small for the two apartment buildings that use it (although there is street parking except for Thursday mornings for street cleaning). Although it was frustrating that I was required to sign a completely new 12 month lease and front the difference between the security deposits, my new apartment is a MUCH better experience than before and in a much better neighborhood and well worth the move.

Negative experience: Good: Convenient location in west Hartford equidistant to the center and downtown, close to all domestic shopping and spacious for the rent at the time. Bad: Poor maintenance. Poor carpets quality, stove tops were dirty and cabinets creeking. Management doesn't take any responsibility. Two extreme cases I had noticed around me in the 711 building: 1.One friend moved in to a 1bhk unit and the apt reeked of the smell of nicotine on the first day itself. Despite multiple calls for reparation, it wasn't fixed for more than 3 months. 2. Lack of security when it comes to delivery of packages. Several times my package were stolen and the management wouldn't take any responsibility to monitor the drop off location. Only after a certain resident complained on the theft of his immigration documents to the cops did they install a security camera at the entrance. When I initially tried to rent the apartment, I was willing to ignore the negative reviews hoping it was for select buildings and would be able to adjust.Being fresh out of grad initially looking for temp accommodation, I thought I could compromise but it was not worth it. To see my security deposit refund reduced to 15% over frivolous maintenance charges has been the tipping off point for me. It took over 2 months for the management to even provide me some form of explanation. I do not recommend any property managed by this realty!

Negative experience: I would rate them a 0 if I could. The office and management staff are very rude. They care only about their money. When I moved out they tried to blame me for existing damage within my unit including "dog scratches " to the apartment door. I did not even own a dog. They did not return my deposit and sent me a bill for over $3,000 of damages that I did not make. Do not rent from them!

Positive experience: ****Pitbull and all-breed friendly apartments!!!***** Honestly, if you just want a landlord who leaves you alone and doesn't give you problems, go with these guys. We've had stuff fixed pretty quickly and they never give us issues about anything. No complaints about living here (2 years) and honestly would 1000% recommend for anyone who has breeds that are hard to find apartments with. Their deposit situation for dogs isn't that bad either. If you don't want to live near dogs, wouldn't recommend--out of the 6 unites in our apartment, 4 have dogs.

Negative experience: I stayed with Intertown Realty for 3 years in 3 different apartment buildings - 610 Farmington Ave., 650 Prospect Ave., and 711 Farmington Ave. Worst management ever and full of rude employees! Never expect back your security deposit. I would give 'zero' stars if possible. A simple google search will tell you they always have about 200 cases pending against them in small claims court! Do yourself a favor by never renting from them.

Negative experience: I rented a studio apartment from Intertown Realty. When I was shown the apartment a stain on the carpet was pointed out to me, and I was told if I wanted them to they would change the carpeting before I moved in, but that it would push my move in date back a week. I'm not picky, and at the time I was just looking for a quick move, so I told them it didn't bother me. During my time there my apartment was broken in to (the front door to the building didn't lock like I was told it did, the intercoms never worked, there was essentially no security to the building at all). I never had any screens in my windows, the windows themselves were sorry excuses for storm windows, everything leaked, mold grew no matter what I did, it was all around disgusting. When they had someone come to repair a window at one point because it wasn't opening or shutting properly, they allowed them into my apartment while I wasn't home without notifying me or obtaining permission (which is illegal), and they used my dishes to have a snack and get a drink, which they dropped on the floor shattering a glass cup all over the kitchen, and then they left the broken glass. I had a cat at the time and was very thankful that she hadn't been hurt. When I called to complain they simply said "well what do you want us to do ..." My apartment was at one point broken in to. The door was busted in and unable to close. This happened on a Friday evening (thankfully while I was out) and when I called them to inform them, they told me I would have to wait until Monday before they would send someone to come fix it. I had to raise a stink and call an attorney before they would agree to fix it the next morning, and then they charged me for a weekend repair. When I moved out I made sure the place was scrubbed down, I took pictures, did a walk through with management, the whole 9. Years later they took me to court claiming I had broken out the glass in all of the windows, stained the carpet (the very stain that had been pointed out to me when initially viewing the apartment), and that I had graffitied all of the walls. They insisted on all of this ... until the courts were shown my photos of my move out date, including a photo of that days newspaper and a copy of the check off list from my walk through with management before returning the keys. They're awful, money grubbing thieves.

Positive experience: The years have been. Good. Sorry the place is not good. For my chair. Bath to small take care

L. Zhao Published on Google 13 years ago

Negative experience: They are indeed VERY VERY VERY rude, especially the male manager. And they keep increasing the rent but never provide better maintenance for the house and the building, and the house condition is absolutely not worth the rent. They never really care about the maintenance or upgrade the house, and they are seldom patient enough to get the problem fully fixed and stay away from new problems. All they do is get the problem temporarily set. Like I once called in the winter complaining my windows/walls are leaky, what they do is they simply use some plastic membranes to cover the window, instead of really using new sealants to seal the leak. And the plastic membranes are just sealed on the side but not top and bottom of the window. I feel like I'm really living in a shelter or worse, instead of a home. Not to mention the bugs, roaches etc, and when I first inspect the house before I move in, the owner was saying "there's no bugs in this building and it's a nice place". How sarcastic. bottom line: DO NOT RENT FROM THEM. Even if you have no choice, the rent you pay them is enough to give you some better housing, anywhere else.
