Experiencia negativa: Theresa handled the sale of my 83 year old mother’s house. My sisters and I all live out of town have been on her for years to sell her house but she was very reticent. My mom listed the house without involving any of us and eventually had an accepted offer. I asked what the offer was and she didn’t know. When I asked to see the agreement, my mom said she didn’t think she had a copy. I chalked this up to poor memory, but later learned from Theresa herself that a copy was never provided. Instead she told my mom she would bring one by if needed. This is a violation of Ohio law. This continued to be an issue as I waited 3 days to get a copy of the next round of agreements/forms. I was assured by the Ohio Board of Realtors that this is unacceptable and a violation of law. They urged me to file a complaint against her as well as involve her principal broker as she has only been a licensed salesperson since 2023. While reviewing the initial agreement I had many concerns that my mom’s best interests were not being represented by Theresa. The buyer is a real estate agent herself and the agreement was structured so that my mom was paying all closing costs, home warranty, title insurance, etc. The initial agreement had to be amended at one point due to the buyer’s financing requirement that caps the closing costs paid by the seller. A revised agreement was presented reducing the offer to account for the difference in closing costs. This wasn’t presented to us by Theresa as negotiable, in fact she pressured us to accept the agreement as written. We still attempted a negotiation, but got nowhere. It seems pointless to have a requirement capping closing costs paid by the seller when you’re just going to strongarm them out of the money somewhere else. Throughout this process, it never once felt like she was on our side in this. It felt like we were on our own up against two realtors. I will say that she repeatedly recited her statement that she works for my mom and she is acting in her best interest. Actions speak louder than words. When you are doing the right thing, you rarely have to remind people of it. I could go on about the issues we faced during this whole process. Theresa showing up at my mom’s house for signatures after being instructed (by my mom and myself) to go through me with any revisions or discussions. Asking repeatedly to be informed of the closing date only to have to call the title company to find out it was scheduled for the very next day. Her miscommunication with the surveyor that cost us an additional $600. Lying to us about the buyer removing all the curtains from the windows prior to closing and possession. The list goes on. My advice from this experience is hire someone with INTEGRITY who will advocate for you and smooth the path when necessary. This whole process was so incredibly stressful for my mom, myself and my sisters. So glad it’s over! Update: Immediately after posting this Theresa retaliated by posting a Google review to my former employer’s page (see screenshot).
