Experiencia fantástica: I rented from Miss Tilley back in 2015. At the time my credit wasn't great, and I had a cat. I wasn't sure if I'd be able to find a reasonably priced place, but Tilley came through with a lovely 2 bedroom off of Evans St. She was super nice, accommodating, had (and still has based on her website), reasonable pet fees and rental prices. The apartment I stayed at was well maintained, and the couple of times we did need maintenance to come, they showed up promptly and did great work. Some landlords make you feel like a nuisances for needing maintenance, but Tilley was always kind and ready to make sure whatever needed to be done was taken care of quickly and efficiently. Move out was a breeze, she didn't overcharge for cleaning or suddenly claim there was damage that wasn't there. She got us our deposit back in a reasonable amount of time and was very kind through the entire process. Had I not moved out of state, I would have continued renting from her! My only regret is not renting from her sooner. ♡

Experiencia fantástica: When I worked as a nurse at the hospital in Greenville (through many name changes from PCMH to now ECU Health)I rented two different properties fromTilley Properties at two different times. I first moved to Greenville in 1999 the day after Hurricane Floyd flooded the town and knocked out power and water. I had no experience with hurricanes and had rented the duplex sight unseen and knowing no one. Missy saved my life. She convinced my neighbors who were grad students to share their generator with me. She navigated everything with me and I don't think I could have lasted without her. I will be forever grateful. I had a 20 year career at the hospital, worked and played with such excellent people. Best move I ever made. Tilley Properties will be fair and reasonable and make sure you have what you need.

Experiencia fantástica: I rented from Tilley Properties for 12 years. They answered my service calls promptly and were always kind and courteous. Missy always goes above and beyond. Once she was on her way to a Christmas party and my Mother could not get ahold of me. I had been having back problems and she was worried something had happened to me. My landline was down and my cell phone needed charging. Missy delayed going to the party to stop by and check on me. As I said, great service!!!

Our rental is affordable, well maintained with a one time pet fee, and most importantly - peaceful! Any maintenance orders are handled swiftly and by individuals I trust and feel safe around. If our family has ever needed understanding for personal dealings - Melissa has extended that, along with the utmost kindness. She truly has the open door policy with her tenants and cares that the neighborhood meshes harmoniously. My family does not intend to rent anywhere else anytime soon.

Experiencia fantástica: I've been living with my family in Tilley Properties for over four years now, and it's been a refreshingly consistent experience each year. When you're home, you want your living situation to be private, peaceful, predictable, and stable - and I can say with confidence that has been the case renting here. Ms. Tilley is a warm and approachable property manager, active in her community and easy to talk to, but non-invasive and very respectful of her tenants privacy. She gives plenty of advance notice when there are any changes in policy or maintenance work to be done, and if maintenance or pest control services are requested, she responds very quickly. Despite living so close to ECU campus and in the downtown area, Tilley safe guards the peace and quiet of her properties by fair but firm stances on noise complaints or any hostile or inappropriate behavior from her tenants, and handles neighborly concerns with discretion and impartiality. I intend to keep renting with her for the foreseeable future.

Experiencia fantástica: Houses and apartments are very close to downtown which is awesome. Never had a problem with the apartment we currently rent and have been in it for over a year. Rent is very reasonable and Ms. Tilley is a great landlord.

Tilley and her son Tyler are always quick to come fix any maintenance problems (even at night). You will not find a better priced rental home in Greenville. The neighborhood is safe and close to campus. Tilley's properties are pet friendly and I love that you only pay a one time pet deposit fee instead of being charged monthly like most places. I have lived in apartments before, but the attention and safety I feel renting from Tilley gives me so much peace of mind. Tyler, her son, who does maintenance work is so quick to respond and always answers his phone and has been so sweet to our pets whenever he comes over. If you're considering moving, meet with Tilley and you will be sold!

Experiencia fantástica: We’ve been renting from Ms. Tilley since 2022. Since living at one of her properties we have had little to no issues or concerns. Any maintenance request has been completed within a very timely manner, often the same or next day. The maintenance men are very respectful of our time and property. Ms. Tilley is a very responsive property manager and always a joy to see around the neighborhood. Our home was equipped with a security system, washer and dryer, and a large privacy fence upon move in. Our rent is affordable and fair for our property. If you are looking for comfortable housing in Greenville, look no further than Tilley Properties.

Even harder to find one in good condition with respectful neighbors. Ms. Tilley knows this and works hard to maintain and offer homes people need. She saved me and my partner from getting scammed by predatory landlords. Also, she is LGBTQ-friendly in an authentic way that makes me feel good about living here. Highly recommend, especially to young professionals.

Experiencia negativa: ***I have my second and final edit at the bottom. This is an experience that my family had about 6 or 7 years ago living in one of her houses and it bothers us so much that we still think about it to this day. She might have changed since then (but reading some of the recent reviews it seems like she hasn't), but to this day, I consider her to be the worst landlord we're ever had. I was in high school at the time. When we were first staying there she was extremely nice. Whenever my mom and I would pay the rent, we would sit in her office and talk with her for a little while. At the time she was having some issues that she was telling us about that were completely stressing her out and we tried our best to offer some surface level comfort and well wishes. Otherwise she was very polite whenever we came to pay her. Once we moved out, which we only did because whoever owned the home was selling the house, it was like switch flipped. After over a month of no communication, we asked her about the progress of our security deposit, and she proceeded to state all of the things wrong with the house that made it so that we actually owed her money. She gave us bogus receipts that were not from credible agencies and stated that we "tore up" things that were normal wear and tear. All of this came after the 30 days that she had to give us this information was up, but she still tried to charge us for it. My family went to court about it, and there was an issue with a seller of the home that was with Ms. Tilley closely knowing the temporary judge at the time, which ended up in an unfair ruling that disregarded everything that my family was stating (especially that any charges made were notified to us after the 30 days she had were up and were thus invalid). That was an issue with the court system by itself. Either way, we have never experienced that amount of disrespect from any other landlord and to this day we don't trust her at all since she seemed highly manipulative. ***Ms. Tilley, while I was under the age of 18 when this happened, I wasn't that much under, so you don't have to make it seem as if I were a young child that wasn't aware of what was going on in my house as we were and still are a close knit family. 1.) You didn't take us to court. We took YOU to court concerning our security deposit because as I previously mentioned, you hadn't said anything to us in over a month and a half about it. 2.) No one ever came by to fix anything despite us telling you what things needed to be done. 3.) Those "legal invoices" that you're talking about, we'll just let those be what you say they are, but WE know the truth. I don't feel like going back and forth with you, so this is my last time commenting on the matter. I just wanted to state our experience with you to the public, which I have the right to do so. Your unprofessionalism speaks volumes, not just from our experience but from some of the other reviews here as well - not to mention your other responses to these reviews. Have a good day.

Experiencia fantástica: I rented two properties with Tilley Properties, one from 2010-2012 on Cotanche and later from 2015-2016 on Evans St. In the rare instance that an issue needed attention, Ms. Tilley always communicated quickly and took care of it promptly, sent a handyman over, etc. She really works hard to keep her properties in good shape, cares for her tenants, and doesn't try to price gouge or keep your deposit like other places I've rented from in the past. I also love the fact that she's pet-friendly, which is a huge risk for property owners and managers. I live out of the area now but she'd be the first person I'd reach out to if I needed to move back to Greenville!

Experiencia negativa: Melissa Tilley, I see in your last reply that you assumed it was me writing the review (even though it’s an image of a Caucasian male). Initially, I wasn’t even going to write my thoughts on your business. Let’s be clear, I’m not upset that you’re not renewing the lease. I became content with that quite some time ago. I’m thrilled that I will not have to deal with your inappropriate and rude remarks anymore. And I can move on to a home where the heat does not go out multiple times. Upon moving into one of your rental properties (after the birth of my newborn) we had to deal with a flea infestation, water damage from previous tenants that you are now blaming on us, the rancid smell of ferret for months in one of the bedrooms, and in a separate bedroom the carpet smelled even worse (even after shampooing multiple times). I remember before the birth of my son, my partner informed you that I was pregnant and you inappropriately remarked “doesn’t she believe in birth control???”. Another encounter you called my 1 year old at the time ugly and laughed in his face. Not to mention the time, you showed up to my home drunk leaning on my vehicle, speaking to myself and my company rudely, and recording me in an attempt to escalate the situation. So no, Missy, I am not upset about the non renewal of lease. Please do not involve me in other review comments. I really believe you should spend less time bullying others and more time trying to be a nicer person as I have stated before. I can’t recall one time you were ever a pleasant person to me and many others can make the same comment. You frequent Christy’s bar so I know plenty of stories of your attitude towards others in Greenville, NC and your impoliteness. I expect fully that you will deny every accusation made in this post.

She has cultivated a unique, eclectic neighborhood that is well suited for both students and professionals. For these reasons (and more, because she's just all around awesome), Tilley Properties is the only company I will rent from while living in Greenville.

Experiencia fantástica: Affordable rental properties in a short walking distance of everything downtown and Campus. When I moved in my place was clean and just had the carpet replaced. The pet fee is very reasonable. It’s the perfect spot for me and my boy (dog)! My neighbors are also very friendly and respectful.

Experiencia negativa: This Property Management Group requires even professional individuals with long rental histories to have a cosigner to rent their property. This property management group would be ideal for students whose parents are willing to cosign for them being that the houses are in the ECU area and that is generally who they like to rent to.

Experiencia negativa: Very unorganized and had my boyfriend and I sign a lease for July 1st, and I contacted Melissa to pay 1st month rent on June 24th (a week before move in as she asked) and was told the unit has occupants in it until late July and will be ready August! she put my family in a tough position and we had to find housing elsewhere in less than a weeks time. The process was sketchy from the beginning, had us sign the lease months before move in, unlike any other place i’ve lived where you sign the day of/day before and she stated she was a real estate agent, and we could sign that day (In April!) The only reason i’m giving her 2 instead of one is she offered my deposit back and was nice after the fact, probably because she knew she was wrong and I could have taken her to court for breach of contract and sue her for damages. None the less she fixed the situation in a swift manor, and provided us our money back, and on we went. My advice is don’t sign until you 1. see the apartment, she assigned us a unit we didnt tour twice and never said it wouldn’t be our unit, and wrongfully under the assumption because someone was living there I assumed it would be ours, than was placed in a different unit with much different doors (brown ugly doors unlike the white interior doors we were shown) older, dated appliances, and the place smelled like marijuana HORRIBLY. there’s nothing in her lease btw that states no smoking! so this may be a place for you if you are an avid weed smoker! and 2. sign the lease NO MORE THAN A WEEK BEFORE WHEN THE UNIT IS BEING PREPARED FOR MOVE OUT! this was a NIGHTMARE, but she did apologize and that goes far in my book. college students, this may be a good affordable place for you if you dont care where you live as long as it’s close to campus but if you want a good experience I wouldn’t recommend this property manager.

Experiencia fantástica: I rented an apartment from them for 2 years and loved it. Perfect location to walk to class and downtown. The property manager and the neighbors are always very friendly and easy to live with. The only reason why I moved is because I got a job in a different town after I graduated.

Experiencia negativa: Would never recommend anyone rent from this property management agency. Landlord affiliated with my daughters property did nothing for the home. The property management office was very abrasive in communication to the parents of the students. Deposits were not returned due to general upkeep of the rentals which should be the responsibility of the landlord. Painting on the outside and inside of your rentals should not be maintained by your renters. Manage your property instead of letting kids come and go out of a home that ultimately my child was held responsible because she stayed and followed the rules. Internet and utilities were charged when my daughter had already moved out while they found another victim to rent from them. The property mangement threatened to evict my daughter even though the other student left and didn’t pay their rent and then to sue myself to pay the other peoples rent and ruin my credit. If you rent a house from them make sure you have an individual renter agreement for that room or you will be screwed. This is Greenville scam for your college students at its finest. #willnevermakethismistakeagain

I've been moved out of her apartment for a year, yet when I move I always compare apartments to hers in my mind because it was that awesome to live there. She has such reasonable rent prices for the locations of her properties. I lived practically next to downtown and paid less than previous apartments. She's great and I recommend her to every friend living in Greenville!
