I'll start by saying that the listing we rented no fee for us because the owner was covering it; that said, it was as if we had paid Gene top dollar ourselves - the level of service, patience, and understanding Gene had in working with us on the leasing and co-op board approval process was unlike anything I've experienced in the NYC rental market. It was our first time renting an apartment in a co-op building, and for anyone who isn't a native New Yorker, the process is unlike anything else in the country (from a rental perspective) and can be quite confusing. We had lots of questions about things that were likely very basic to folks more familiar with the process, and Gene was so patient, answering our questions quickly and thoroughly. He was also a wonderful intermediary between ourselves and our landlord while we were awaiting co-op board approval. Even the handoff process from working with Gene to working directly with the landlord once we had final approval on the apartment was absolutely fantastic. If we are ever looking to rent or buy in NYC in the future, we'll look no further than Gene.

Experiencia fantástica: After looking for a rental apartment in NYC for more than a month with no success, Gene's professional help was truly invaluable. He curated the list of apartments to visit, booked all the appointments and helped us with the application process. In four days we signed a contract for the apartment we're now at the UWS. I would totally recommend.

Experiencia negativa: I reached out to Gene regarding viewing an apartment. He emailed back asking for 15% fee of annual rent in case I sign the lease, which was not mentioned in the listing. Fine. He wrote, "Is this something you would be willing to consider? If it's not within your means, I totally understand it". Made it sound like the fee was optional. One of the services he offered in exchange for the fee was to negotiate the lease. I say, "I'm only able to afford the fee if you can help lower the rent. If not, I can pay the rent amount that is requested". Gene declined my offer. Also, turns out, the fee is mandatory. Fishy miscommunication on purpose. Also, pretty rude. Puts his phone number on the listing, doesn't say that he prefers to communicate via email. Upon receiving a phone call, yells that the client wasn't supposed to call and hangs up.
