Fantastic experience: We loved our apartment at Winchester Lofts and are sad to be leaving it. The high ceilings, exposed brick and big windows are beautiful, and the floor plans are more spacious than you usually see in newly built apartments. The Winchester Repeating Arms Company and Winchester family have an interesting history, and we like that it’s preserved through the building. The management changed a few times in the 4 years that we were there, but Cayley Kelly and Marilyn Guest on the current team are great – very friendly and accommodating.

Positive experience: Good appointment. Noisy on Winchester Ave every evening.

Fantastic experience: Having called Winchester Lofts home for six years, I can confidently say there is absolutely nothing else like it in New Haven. If you appreciate true historical character, this place is incomparable. The massive factory windows, soaring ceilings, and exposed brick give the apartments a unique, authentic industrial vibe that modern "luxury" cookie-cutter buildings simply cannot replicate. Living here felt like owning a piece of the city's history. I won't sugarcoat it—the ongoing and continued construction around the area has been a total nightmare at times. The noise and dust outside were definitely a test of patience. However, I always found it better to focus on the good, because the actual living experience inside the community is worth it. A huge shoutout goes to the property management, leasing teams and maintenance workers over the years. They have always been fantastic, attentive, and genuinely great people. It was always clear that their hands were tied when it came to the massive construction mess and noise happening right outside their control, but they always did everything they could to support the residents and keep the indoor community running smoothly. If you want a sterile, generic apartment, look elsewhere. But if you want unmatched character, beautiful spaces, and a stellar team managing your home, Winchester Lofts is incredible. I'm grateful for my six years here!

Negative experience: Despite management replying to all negative reviews that they would love to discuss any concerns further, Krystal responds with open hostility anytime a resident raises an issue. In fact, I have not received a response from her about any issue raised for almost six months. If you acknowledge any issues in this “luxury” building, your calls will be screened by Marilyn, who repeatedly admits that she has no power to do anything except ask Krystal to contact you (which she won’t.) Multiple negative reviews, and especially photos, have mysteriously disappeared a few days after being posted. Management has plenty of time to monitor and report legitimate reviews with screenshots of Krystal’s demonic emails to residents, but no time to replenish equipment wipes in gym (absolutely disgusting) or repair the damaged and leaking ceilings in hallways (video attached — if it’s gone, management reported it). I highly recommend trying to reach out to a resident before signing a lease here. I chose to live here because it is equidistant from Yale compared to apartments in downtown, but a few hundred dollars cheaper. I can confidently say that we would not be living here anymore if the costs of moving weren’t what they are. Management understands this of course and is happy to raise your rent after the building and neighborhood have demonstrably gone downhill. There is now nonstop construction all weekdays releasing loads of toxic particles into the air and the only coffee shop nearby closed. Please spare yourself from the nightmare that is this building. - construction begins at 7am on the dot every day - phone number frequently does not work — good luck if you need emergency maintenance - every six months my refrigerator, washer, and dryer have had to be replaced. The refrigerator has one setting for both the fridge and freezer, so you must choose between your fridge being above legally safe temperatures (45° or more) or your freezer being unusably cold (-20°) - all three of the above are smaller than any I have had in much, much worse apartments. One personal sized pizza is too big to fit in the fridge, and a normal laundry basket worth of clothes will need to be washed in three separate tiny loads. - I got stuck in one of the building elevators - there are no lights in either the living room or bedroom (two rooms where people spend the most time) so you will be on the hook for purchasing your own light fixtures unless you want to sit in the dark - with absolutely no prior warning to residents, onsite parking was removed with no reduction in parking fee - this change in parking means there is now no place to pull up to the building. If you are moving, bought groceries, or returning from a trip with your luggage, you will have to walk down the street and up multiple flights of stairs. I genuinely don’t understand how this building is ADA compliant. - noise complaints will not be dealt with after 4pm or on weekends, when residents are actually home - emergency maintenance line does not work - gym equipment which requires internet access to be used is constantly disconnected for weeks, and management is too lazy to replace $2 wet wipes for gym equipment — absolutely disgusting - the ceiling of every single floor’s hallway has had major leaks and structural damage. There is currently a huge leak on the first floor dripping into an industrial garbage bin, and a previously deleted review included a video of a similar leak happening on the third floor - building-wide settings restrict AC to be set to 68° or higher — not 60°, 68°. This feels higher than 70° in the summer due to lack of insulation coupled with lofted ceilings - the only call box for the building was broken for an entire month & management never even sent an email. When I simply followed up about when it would be fixed after more than a week, Krystal gaslit me asking “what are you trying to do here?” This is such a cool building that was wonderful when we moved in. It immediately went downhill when Krystal took over, and it has only continued to get worse.

Negative experience: Às A VETERAN It's So Sad To See ALL OF THIS DEVELOPMENTS OVER CT. PARTICULARLY IN NEW HAVEN COUNTY....MANY ARE SOOOO EXPENSIVE!!!!!!!! AND ITS PRICING EVEN MIDDLE CLASS OUT APARTMENTS AND HOMES...AND EVEN WALL STREET IS LITERALLY BUYING UP MOBILE HOME LOTS (22 MILLION RESIDENT'S OCCUPIED MOBILE HOMES ) AND JACKING UP RENTS/TAXES...AND MANY CITIES WON'T EVEN SUPPORT TINY HOMES TO HELP AMERICANS ESPECIALLY VETERANS...ITS JUST PERPLEXING THAT TOP 1% OWNS 99% OF ALL WEALTH/MONEY ON THE PLANET So This Is Just My Opinion Based Off Of Facts...ie My Bicentennial Venting Moment...Try To Have A Good Day All

Positive experience: They are still under renovation. Japanese restaurant will be open in 2026. Looking forward to seeing. Farmington canal is next to this place, Very nice shopping area, if it is finished.

Negative experience: Avoid This Place – Terrible Management and Not Worth the Price If you’re considering moving here, don’t. This property management company is one of the worst I’ve ever encountered. They do not work with residents—they work against them. From the moment my girlfriend moved in, it’s been nothing but frustration. 1. Horrible Management – They are unresponsive, dismissive, and unwilling to help with even the most basic tenant concerns. Instead of addressing issues, they ignore complaints or give the runaround. 2. Parking Nightmare – Without warning, they took away parking, making it nearly impossible for residents to find a spot. No explanation, no alternative solutions—just more inconvenience at the tenant’s expense. 3. Overpriced for What You Get – This place charges way too much for what they offer. There are much nicer apartments in the area with better amenities and lower rent. This building is a terrible deal, and management knows it but does nothing to improve. Bottom line: Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. The stress, lack of professionalism, and ridiculous policies here are not worth it. If I could give zero stars, I would. Edit: six months later! I would like to just add again. I never personally lived here, but my girlfriend did so therefore, I spent a lot of time in this place. In the response that is below my review right now they say the parking was still there, maybe there was a parking lot that was still available for a little bit. However, when we were moving out, there was absolutely no parking lot. They say it is due to construction, but if you are handicapped or only plan to live here for a short time while you may be working or studying in the area. It’s not worth it. Especially considering they want you to pay. There are places that are going to be more well reviewed in the area and truthfully a lot closer to where you would actually like to be. Maybe you wouldn’t even need a car! One of the more important things to add is that yes my girlfriend had her issues with the management. Due to her busy job, she could not come into the office. However, anytime there was an issue they always said “please come into the office.” It’s simply not possible in today’s day and age to find in the workday time to have a physical meeting on site. Email is completely appropriate for a conversation thread and the management here at the time seemed to disregard any answers over email as an appropriate response. Maybe possibly due to legal reasons they don’t want to have their documents subpoenaed. I don’t know, but frankly found it incredibly rude and unbearable when every email would just end with “please come into the office.” If you don’t believe me, literally look at the response to this review and see how they tried to get me off-line and into the office. Most importantly, my girlfriend left the apartment immaculate upon her exit. However, it somehow took weeks to get her deposit back. Her lease was up in the first week of the month and they insisted she pay for the entire month. When obviously a prorated amount paid in advance was appropriate they said they would prorate upon return. I’m sure anyone looking at this is already aware of the intense cost of moving and paying an entire months rent as you move only hoping to get it back is ridiculous. Its clear they were trying to hold her deposit in the hopes that she would delete her negative review of this place. Citing that it hurt them “personally.” Whether the return of her deposit was just incompetence or malicious behavior I would never trust it in a place where I intended to live. In conclusion, say what you will about the parking, our inability to get delivery food, or just the rudeness of responses from people in the office… The absolute most important thing to consider is when somebody is trying to mess with your money, your deposit, or your rent, especially when you need every cent upon moving in or out of somewhere. Do five more minutes of work and find somewhere else to live.

Negative experience: I enjoy my apartment but the building management has gotten increasingly worse over the course of the 3 years I’ve been here and most amenities are either broken or non functioning. When I try to notify management of any issues (typically with the general amenities that everyone uses) it results in some form of a condescending conversation where I’m gaslit or told that she has bigger issues to deal with at the moment.

Negative experience: Run, don’t walk…. Away from this place. When I first moved to this apartment complex in 2022 I was met with great management (Cindy and Ginger will always be the best thing this place had) and a sense that there was pride in the upkeep of the renovated historic building and a solid reputation as a welcoming, clean apartment complex. In the years that followed and several managers later the Winchester Lofts turned into a place that I can only describe as disgraceful. And the lack of consideration for the tenants that live there is appalling. When construction started a couple of years ago we were told that our parking would be limited, and then it ended up being completely taken away and so we were fully redirected to a lot that is only near one entrance to the building and not secure, which isn’t even near the main entrance to the leasing office/mail/gym(which was despicable) etc. Instead of waving the parking fee or at least reducing it because of how inconvenient parking turned into, management kept it the same. Every other month adding billing and transaction fees to monthly rent, amongst other changes so they could keep ripping the tenants off. The pride that I felt this place had was completely torn away by the time me and my partner left in 2024. Construction never stops… and the groundskeepers and parking garage attendants work from what seemed like 5am - flailing around leaf blowers, most of the time because they are bored… let me also say that YOU WILL HEAR YOUR NEIGHBORS and every noise outside. There is absolutely no insulation in that place. Because this place has turned into a dreamscape for unruly tenants, some of the people they let live there may or may not be homeless - but nonetheless act as such, disrespectful, meandering the halls, their pets defecating on the carpets and leaving their bikes in the hallways, and don’t complain to management because they will always defer and have some excuse to give. The fire alarms WILL go off - and all the time. I’m not sure if Oliver Winchester himself haunts that place but it isn’t right how many times the entire apartment building (which is made of many buildings) radiates a siren that could wake the dead… at all hours of the night. If your fire alarm battery needs to be changed you cannot reach the alarms yourself and maintenance will have to come but it is not considered an emergency so you will be listening to a fire alarm beeping all night along until maintenance comes. Really bizarre. If you’ve read this far and are thinking, okay well that’s not THAT BAD… well I’m not done. My partner’s car got towed (even with a parking sticker) The amount of cars we have seen have their tires stolen and windows smashed in the loft’s parking lot is unacceptable. Please don’t think for a second these once “luxury apartments” are anything more than a mediocre, noise infested, overpriced, moneypit. Living in this place is so outrageous that I started to feel like management didn’t care if its tenants stayed or left, and if anything they push happily paying tenants out while accommodating those on the verge/past the point of eviction. One of the best moments of my life was moving out and finally having some peace and quiet far away from this place. DO NOT LIVE HERE.

Fantastic experience: The apartment manager is wonderful can’t say enough good about all the help they have given us to move in. The apartment is wonderful and is better than expected since we did not see that apartment before we moved here. Location is great. Walkable distance to Yale school. I would highly recommend this apartment complex if moving to New Haven.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been living here for a year now and I absolutely love it. The management and maintenance team is amazing! They respond quickly to issues and make sure their tenants are as happy and comfortable as possible. Although there is construction right next to the building, the walls are thick so the noise isn’t that bad. The parking can be a little inconvenient, but they are working on building a parking lot very close to the building. If you are thinking about moving in, I highly HIGHLY recommend it !!

Fantastic experience: This review is real, NO A.i. I am a tenant here in this building and have been for 10 years now. I first fell in love with the structure, the history and the beauty of this building. Never have I complained or had any disruption while living here. I enjoy living in a building that has that New York feel with the brick walls, concrete floors, high windows and ceilings. I encourage people to move here, it’s definitely a great place to live. The amenities are awesome.

Negative experience: DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER LIVING HERE. Living here has turned into a waking nightmare and it’s not changing anytime soon. The demolition of buildings attached to Winchester lofts will continue for at least a year followed by more constriction. Prepare to be woken up everyday at 6am by the sounds of construction, remediation and demolition. Weekends as well. The parking, which they charge for, situation is horrible, there’s not longer access to either of the loading door so moving anything in or out of the building is a huge task. Bringing groceries home? Don’t plan on eating much, you’ll have to haul it from blocks away and up stairs. The management has steadily gotten worse. They try and find new ways to charge you even more. Water fee, sewer fee, billing fee, amenity fee, all added since I moved here. Community events? Gone. They can’t keep up with the cleaning so the place now smells bad and looks worse. Just walk into the office some days you can smell the mildew and backed up sewerage. CHOOSING TO LIVE HERE IS A HUGE MISTAKE!

Positive experience: Quite apartment, and there are many windows, so the lighting is good. But the single-layer glass plus the high ceiling of the room do not keep the room warm in winter, and the space that needs to be heated becomes larger, so the heating cost is very expensive

Negative experience: Updated review May 2025 Living here has been, without question, the worst rental experience I’ve ever had. What’s advertised as a “luxury building” is, in reality, anything but. The only thing luxury about it is the price tag—everything else is a constant frustration. First, parking is a complete disaster. There are only six on-site spots for the entire complex, and residents are charged $75/month to park in an unsafe, poorly lit area. As a woman, I never felt comfortable walking from my car to my unit, especially at night. I had to time my grocery trips to daylight hours just to feel safe walking the block and a half from where I parked. To make matters worse, there was no notice when the limited parking was suddenly taken away, yet the charges continued. Delivery is another nightmare. There’s no clear signage, so Uber Eats, DoorDash, and package deliveries are often misdirected or severely delayed. The building simply isn’t equipped to handle the basic logistics of modern living. Weekends are filled with false fire alarms that automatically trigger floor-level door locks, making it difficult to navigate the building safely. This is not only inconvenient but potentially dangerous in the event of a real emergency. The gym—one of the reasons I signed the lease—is not secure and feels unsafe. A man who seemed to pose a danger to residents had full access, making the space unusable for me. On top of that, the equipment is outdated and frequently broken. While management has occasionally been polite, I had deeply unpleasant interactions when trying to clarify my lease. I was met with hostility instead of help, which ultimately pushed me to break my lease early and move out. I found a better, safer, and cheaper place with actual amenities nearby in East Rock, Downtown, or Wooster Square—all areas with buildings that actually offer what this one only pretends to. This building is all about appearances: cute interiors and Instagram-worthy marketing that mask an overall lack of care, security, and functionality. Save yourself the money, time, and stress—there are much better options nearby.

Positive experience: We have been residents for 4 months and are happy with the apartment and truly delighted with the exemplary staff, who are all exceptionally professional, friendly and go out of their way to help with any issues that arise. We love the apartment (we are in a 2 br) layout and of course the windows. The fitout is only adequate but is reflected in the price. Biggest issue for us is parking availability. Complaints about neighborhood security are unfair. New Haven has its problems and that is hardly the fault of the complex.

Positive experience: This is just MY experience! First, I LOVE Miss Mia! Such a great face to see in the office, always smiling, and truly wants to help! I live in a concrete style apartment, and I will say I have no noise issues. I do believe it is different between wooden and concrete apartments with noise! Even walking down hallways with wooden apartments you can hear noise bleeds. Yes the parking. Do I wish there was more spots in front of the building? Of course! However, I am fine with parking across the street if need be! I do wish we had access to cut through the winchester works builing to get to the courtyard faster when we park there. I do think some construction workers are taking our spots during the daytime. As a grad student from a lower income family, I appreciate the luxuries the lofts have! The Mail Package Room, The in-unit washer and dryer (even though they are soooooo inefficient no shade, they take SOOOOO long to dry), the trash room and etc. I do think maintenance can be more efficient. Sometimes I think they half fix issues, and you have to put it in again saying it still isn't fixed. All in all, I do truly love and appreciate being here. I think all places have issues, and I think all of the other reviews have validity! Just my perspective on issues and things!

Negative experience: Worst place to live in. Dont even know where to begin. 1) the insulation is soo bad you can hear your neighbors every move. We can hear when they fart. 2) they started new construction next to us that took half the parking spots away. Now there are barely any spots. If you leave you wont get a spot. Forced to park across the street where people steal your tires and break in your cars. Or get your car towed because visitors take the spots and you are forced to park in spots that are not designated as parking. Just save yourself and dont move here many other places around with better amenities and safer parking.

Fantastic experience: My husband and I absolutely loved living in Winchester Lofts. We recently just moved for my job, but if we ever move back, we would move back to Winchester Lofts in a heartbeat. The staff is amazing, the facilities are stunning, and the location is so very convenient. We were so close to Yale and we weren't in the heart of the downtown area which was PERFECT for us! We would recommend this place to anyone!!!

Fantastic experience: My wife and I recently moved here and have found the staff incredibly helpful at every step of the process! We moved from out of state and had no idea what to expect but love New Haven and the tall ceilings and windows in our apartment. Yes, there is construction going on around us, just like any other city. We have not had any issues and love our introduction to New Haven so far!

Negative experience: Lived here for a 1 year lease. At the 5 month mark, major construction began that reduced parking availability by more than 50%. Residents were forced to park in a lot ~1/4mi away that is unsafe- residents have reported articles being stolen from within/on their vehicles in the overflow lot. The real injustice: Winchester Lofts continued charging all residents $75 for monthly parking (standard rate) despite the material change in service. So now I have to wake up to jack hammering, park in a dangerous area, AND pay for the privilege. Outside of construction- The walls in my apartment are incredibly thin in the upstairs loft- I hear everything my neighbors say on their zoom calls. The HVAC has no upstairs control and I cannot open any of the windows. The gym has some of the oldest equipment I’ve ever seen. The place feels dirty on the inside. I’ve needed my fridge, oven, and thermostat all replaced in my time here.

Negative experience: *edit -since posting this review my car windows has been smashed in and things stolen, right in the parking lot, in bright light, under a camera (which missed most of it). Half of the buildings in the complex are about to be demolished so be prepared for months of noise, dust and inconvenience. Parking is also moving offsite. 13 months later the TVs in the gym still don’t work… I have lived here for two years, and because of things outside my control I will live here for another year. If you’re considering living here there are some things you should know. Cons- Noise and air First and foremost the noise, the internal walls are cheap and don't absorb the noise, so any shared wall noise will travel right through. We can hear our neighbor turning pages in her book when she reads at night, so we are forced to sleep with the air system constantly on, fans beside the bed and earplugs just to get to sleep. If you live on the top floor its even worse. There are chilling units and air handlers on the roof and again the sound insulation is non-existent. All summer long you'll hear several loud machines emitting different and inconsistent industrial noise. Those machines however aren't powerful enough to run the systems in the summer, so they throttle your air conditioning, meaning if you like it below 78 degrees your out of luck. They'll tell you to close your blinds. Neighborhood Don't be fooled by the proximity of the Yale campus, this is a very dangerous place to live. Just check the crime statistics Winchester is in district 10, gun related crimes happen all the time. I've heard gun shots in the morning headed to my car. Speaking of cars, the parking lot (which costs $75/month) is completely unsecured and cars get broken into constantly. Amenities When you move in you pay an additional amenity charge. The amenities here are very sub-par, the gym is about what you'd expect from a hotel. All the cardio machines have Ipod connectors, because they are over a decade old. There are no free weights except for dumbbells, but they only go up to 50lbs. They've recently put some new equipment in, but it's just cheap stuff from amazon, not professional gym equipment. Even the new dumbbells are mickey mouse level, cheap knockoffs. Their used to be a arcade cabinet in the 'game room', it broke (again probably after 15 years of use) instead of replacing it, they threw a $400 pingpong table so they didn't have to replace the $3k-4K arcade. The best part? They now want to charge the amenity fee EVERY YEAR! Staff They have gotten rid of most of the good people. Cindy, Ginger, Marlon have all been replaced, probably because they were too focused on residents and not focused enough on profits. "Market Rate" Expect management to raise you rent +/- $200 every year for no reason other than some intangible "market rate", they seem to think they stack up evenly to a brand new luxury apartment building, right downtown, with securing parking, amazing amenities and a pool. Pros- Building has a lot of character, and the high ceilings make the apartments feel spacious. Generally people who live here are nice. Emily at the desk is very nice and helpful and Paul does his best to deliver all the constant bad news. There is a shuttle stop right out front and a new CrossFit place across the street.

Negative experience: The walls are so thin. My neighbor was listening to rihanna 2 mins ago and is listening to tame impala right now.

Fantastic experience: I'm not sure I have the words to quantify how pleased I am with this community. My transition here was the most seamless I've ever experienced, & I've moved around quite a bit. As such, I have had a million questions and Emily and Paul are so kind and accommodating that they've made and continue to make everything so easy. The entire complex is just so aesthetically pleasing, but my apartment is to die for. It's spacious and bright with super high ceilings and huge windows, but most importantly I don't hear my neighbors, like at all. The hallways and common spaces are always spotless, even the trash room seems to emptied multiple times per day. The few maintenance requests I've had to put in have been resolved same day by Jose and Zilroy, both with a smile. Having a pretty apartment is all good, but a team of staff who actually want to be here and want to help is invaluable. I can't say enough good things about them. I think it's important to note that this is still New Haven, and safety will always be an issue. That said, I've never felt unsafe here. There's a patrol car here at night and the huge parking lot is always super well lit. The communication about the happenings of the community has also always been top notch. Cheers to never having to worry about missing packages! :) I literally never want to leave.

Negative experience: No affordability

Negative experience: STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPLEX! First couple months of living there my car was smashed into. My wife stopped walking around the neighborhood because of safety issues. It is unsafe to walk because of criminals walking around. These apartments also are poorly insulated, there is crazy amount of noise coming from the main road as well, and we have SEEN BUGS throughout the facility. Looks nice from afar but multiple factors can be seen after signing the lease trap. Also read the fine print in the lease, you have to give 60 days notice to vacate when the lease is over, they got us for an extra month.

Fantastic experience: My transition to Winchester Lofts has been super smooth! Cindy, the property manager, was the absolute best! Also, the maintenance guys are very fast, knowledgeable, and very responsive. The apartment itself has such a unique layout, and I love it. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: My husband, two dogs, and I have loved living at the Winchester Lofts! The apartment itself is beautiful-- high ceilings, big windows to let in plenty of light, new appliances (yay for in-unit washer/dryer!), and a layout that fully utilizes the available space (yay for big closets!). The complex itself is beautiful as well. The hallways and elevators are kept spotless, the courtyard has great landscaping and plenty of seating (including new tables and umbrellas!) that make it a nice place to get some fresh air, and there is a great gym that has *almost* all of the equipment that you might need. Having two older dogs, I also really appreciate the dog washing station that they can easily get in/out of and the abundance of poop bag stations (you never know when you are going to run out). Most importantly, everyone who works at Winchester Lofts is a joy to interact with. The maintenance workers are very friendly and I look forward to saying hi and chatting with them in the hallways and courtyard. They are also *very* good at their jobs-- things are rarely broken, repairs and general maintenance (i.e, air filter replacements) are made super quickly, and the entire complex is kept spotless. The ladies in the front office are also incredibly helpful. They made the lease renewal process painless by providing timely messages and updates, and are always kind enough to call us if we forget packages. They also schedule nice events (with food!) that help us feel a little more connected to our neighbors. I really appreciate all of the hardwork that everyone at Winchester Lofts puts into making it a great place to live. I'd give it 10/5 stars if I could :)

Fantastic experience: Beautiful building to live in. The parking lot is very spacious and the area is safe. Inside the hallways are wide and the apartments are easy to locate. There are two entrances, one on the corner and the other is behind the building in the lot. There is usually a police officer there or across the street in a patrol car but it’s not definite. All In all I give this place 5 stars.

Fantastic experience: My husband and I just moved to the complex from Dallas and are quite impressed with the excellent welcome and customer service received from the management team, specially Denise and Cindy. Additionally, the best asset of these apartments is the natural light, big windows and high ceilings make the ambiance even better.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful property with good amenities! I had a tour with Cindy & she was great! She was very informative & answered all of my questions. I would definitely recommend. I decided on another property that will be easier for me to commute but I loved these lofts.

Fantastic experience: Great price point for the amount of space you're getting. Also updated appliances, in unit washer/dryer, massively high ceilings, and modern/industrial finishes. Been living here for 3 years and haven't had any noise issues. Been a very good experience.

Fantastic experience: I stayed here for a little over 4 months for a work assignment. The apartments are spacious and clean. The appliances were new and having the washer/dryer in the unit was a real plus. The courtyard on the interior of the complex was a great place to sit to relax.

Fantastic experience: I have lived at Winchester Lofts for a year and I have absolutely loved my experience. The apartment complex and the units are beautiful and well maintained. There are excellent amenities. The best feature has been the extraordinary apartment staff. Rhina and Ginger are very attentive and kind and they respond to questions quickly. I am very excited to renew my lease and I recommend this complex to anyone looking to move to the area.

Negative experience: As others have mentioned the living experience would be great if it weren't for the fatal flaw of the noise issues. It is true that they had installed sound insulation in September, however it was only installed in the walls for adjacent apartments where in my experience my neighbors above and below have been the source of all the noise. I have experienced many sleepless nights thus far and while the old manager talked about installing ceiling/floor noise insulation, I do not think they are currently planning to rectify this problem Update: Updating this at 3 am when I have to wake up at 5 am and a lot of LOUD awkward noises coming from neighbors. Yeah no solution for noise issues in sight and I definitely won't be resigning this lease.

Positive experience: Apartments are very good and walking distance to Yale campus. Leasing office is very helpful. There could have a supermarket closer to the apartment...

Fantastic experience: Cleanliness, Class, & Community make this place. I have only been here two months but I'm impressed with the communication from management regarding the property & all residents I've met have also been so kind!

Negative experience: I lived here for a few years and this place has really gone down hill. They used to have a transition management team when this building was first built that did their best to keep the residents happy. They acknowledged the blatant sound issues and explained to the residents they were looking for solutions to the sound complaints nearly every resident was having. Since then, the management personnel has changed. They are unapologetic and continue to ignore simple requests (e.g. notifying residents to return the common use carts). At one point I was told that the flooring had to be redone to try and block the noise traveling between all the apartments and would be a long-project. They have since abandoned this project most likely due to the enormous cost and continue to state they are looking for "other solutions". Do not believe them for a second if they say they are working on the noise issue. They are cutting their losses, staying hush-hush about the problem to future tenants, and trying to take EVERY cent from past tenants as they move out (read your lease terms carefully!). To state how bad the sound is...you can literally hear your neighbors whispering to each other. Oh yea one more thing...the brick walls were a nice design element but not very practical because they slowly crumble and release red dust into the air that you breathe in (this is probably why the brick walls are actually painted in the hallways). The only saving grace of this place are the maintenance people...really nice guys that do their best.

Positive experience: The bikes are cool but the apartments are too expensive.

Negative experience: The staff here is excellent. The amenities are very nice to have. I have nothing but good things to say about those. I haven't experienced noise problems that cause us to lose sleep over (we are on the top floor) but we do hear our next door neighbors from time to time. The real issue is the unreasonable frequency of fire alarms that go off at all times of the day for things that shouldn't cause a building wide evacuation such as issues with the cooling system. We have been woken up in the middle of the night by the horribly painful alarm many times. It causes major stress to our pets and I'm sure there is some damage to their ears when we aren't home to take them out of the noise. We pay too much in rent to have to deal with this on a monthly basis.

Fantastic experience: Love it. I haven't had any noise issue or other complaints. Good location and close to everything

Positive experience: Beautiful new apartments, but beware there is no sound insulation. You'll hear ALL your neighbors.

Positive experience: Positives for renting from Winchester woulld include spacious rooms, lots of amenities and great views in a pretty decent neighborhood, especially for New Haven. For the negative,s the walls are too thin and it can get pretty drafty during the winter months. Hopefully the management of Winchester will try to address these issues of better insulation and acoustics.

Negative experience: Looking at the apartments my first reaction was that they were trendy, well appointed, with decent amenities. A bit pricey for the location - there is nothing really within walking distance and the neighborhood isn't the greatest. One of the most important questions which I asked the leasing staff prior to moving in was about the sound proofing in the apartments. I was assured that there was sound proofing between the floors. After moving in I quickly realized here was absolutely no insulation. Ive had to listen to all of my neighbors late night phone conversations, every loud footstep....everything. As clear as if I was sitting in their apartment. In addition to being jolted out of sleep from the heavy footsteps and talking, pieces of brick have been steadily raining down on me from the ceiling, in my bed, on counter tops, and sometimes on me. The large windows provide plenty of light and plenty of draft. Drafts so bad Christmas cards on the window ledges blow off. Can't wait to see this heating bill. These things might be tolerable in a lower rent, but not for what we pay here. There are plenty of other, newer, and better constructed apartments in the area in better locations for a similar price. Don't be distracted by the vaulted ceilings and nice appliances - they aren't worth it.
